Lessonspace is here to make teaching easier. We’re a fast-growing software company that provides tools for live, collaborative online learning. Thousands of hours of lessons are taught around the world every day using Lessonspace. Founded in South Africa, Lessonspace now operates globally, with Europe and North America as our biggest markets. Lessonspace also helps to power products like Code4Kids, which is the largest provider of primary-school coding curricula in South Africa and is now expanding into global English-speaking markets.

During Covid, we grew 10X and we’re looking for a talented and ambitious Growth Marketer to help accelerate our growth even further.

This role spans both the Lessonspace and Code4Kids brands. Two different products, in a similar space, with overlapping teams. You will need to be able to balance two distinctly different strategies, teams and execution plans, regularly switching between the two and apply business processes to each. This role will require a fast learner and favour a doer over a thinker. You will have the opportunity to learn at 2x the speed while growing both companies simultaneously.

Our ideal candidate for this role is a growth specialist with experience in marketing education SaaS products, preferably in European and North American markets. Experience in the education industry is preferred but not required. Passion for delivering educational impact is essential.

This is the first full-time marketing role at Lessonspace and Code4Kids, which means you’ll have full ownership of the marketing strategy and execution. This includes high-level work like setting direction and targets for growth, but also requires getting your hands dirty with the day to day work of writing copy and designing marketing materials. We are looking for someone who is willing to both design and operate the “marketing machine” as we grow our marketing efforts.

You'll be working closely with the co-founders of the company, and have full access to business metrics, and over time will lead the marketing team as it grows.

As a Growth Marketer, you will be required to:

  • Work closely with both brands’ sales, success, and product teams to support the business strategy, drive brand awareness and create demand.
  • Take full ownership of developing and executing the company’s marketing strategy, including designing Standard Operating Procedures for every step in the process.
  • Gain a holistic understanding of our markets and ICPs and design and deliver consistent and effective messaging to a global audience.
  • Oversee and execute on a variety of content marketing activities, such as articles, blogs, and video, to position Lessonspace and Code4Kids as thought leaders in the education market, including graphic content creation and daily content management.
  • Design, execute, and measure the effectiveness of various marketing activities in order to drive growth through lead generation and optimization of marketing and sales pipelines. A belief in the importance of KPIs is critically important.
  • You will be leading the development of a new department in the company and you are capable, experienced, willing and excited to step into a leadership and executive role, in the near future.

Requirements of the role:

  • A University degree is not needed, but would be ideal.
  • 3+ years of experience in marketing-related roles.
  • Experience running measurably successful marketing campaigns.
  • Experience in the full stack of marketing from strategy to tools, execution and reporting.
  • Solid knowledge of web analytics and Google Adwords.
  • Experience with CRM and marketing automation software.
  • Basic design and copywriting skills, with an eye for detail.

Realities of the Role:

Working in a remote role with ambitious growth targets will result in some days feeling challenging while others will be very high energy. Oftentimes, you will need to be managing multiple projects of different sizes, in various stages of the development. Working at Lessonspace and Code4Kids is exciting and we are treading new territory in the Education technology industry. You will have the opportunity to contribute significantly to the company’s growth during this pivotal time.

What will help you to find success in this role:

  • A good time keeper with the ability to project manage yourself and clearly communicate progress, difficulties or lack of clarity.
  • You are not a quiet-quitter type; this role requires a driver who takes the front seat.
  • Both creative and analytical skills, with the ability to come up with creative approaches while rigorously testing their effectiveness.
  • Able to spend days or hours working through problems yourself, often without frequent contact, balanced with the enjoyment of small-group team meetings and creative discussions.
  • Leadership skills with the ability to set and prioritise goals.

Remuneration and work environment:

  • Lessonspace is a fully-remote team, though from time-to-time we might ask you to join us at our office in Cape Town should it be practical.
  • Ideally for a month of on-boarding, you'll be joining us in our Cape Town office (WeWork on Strand).
  • You will report directly to the COO, though you will work closely with the sales, success, and product teams.
  • Remuneration is between R40k and R60k per month (or USD equivalent) based on experience.

Our application process

  • Pre-screening (CV, LinkedIn, Portfolio, Assessment Questions).
  • Take-home assignment followed by a face-to-face/online technical interview and presentation.
  • A deeper dive goals and values discussion with our CEO and/or other team members/leads.
  • Reference checks (at least 2).
  • The option of hanging out with the team (online/offline).

One of our core values at Lessonspace is “stab from the front; pat on the back” which encourage regular feedback within the team. That said, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to give feedback on decision making at every step in the assessment process.

We look forward to hearing from you!
